Philosophy and Vision

Philosophy

At Wollongbar Community Pre-School we believe that: WE ARE A COMMUNITY OF LIFE LONG LEARNERS

We acknowledge the original custodians of the land, the Bundjalung People and we pay our respects each day to the Bundjalung People.  We respect and acknowledge the culture and heritage of Indigenous and Torres Strait Islanders and provide an inclusive environment, where all children are culturally, linguistically and socially supported.

We value children as capable and confident learners and put their needs and interests at the core of our program. Each child is recognised as unique individual and we respect each child’s right to learn in an unhurried environment rich in authentic play experiences. We believe children learn in a social context and therefore incorporate our curriculum to encompass children’s natural curiosity, allowing for collaboration, as well as connecting to the community.

We value the importance and advocate for a play-based learning environment where the children have the opportunity to explore, wonder, connect with nature and the environment, problem solve, investigate, hypothesise, create, express their ideas and make decisions that directly impact on them. Teachers and Educators play an important role in facilitating, enriching and supporting children’s learning in a play-based environment.

We value families as their child’s first and most influential teacher and work in partnership with families to ensure each child is nurtured. We encourage family involvement in the preschool by inviting families to share their special skills, talents and interests. We value each family’s unique background and celebrate and honour each child’s heritage. Our door is always open for family to visit our environment throughout the day.

We value the child’s right to feel safe secure and supported and provide learning opportunities and encourage children interact with others peacefully and respectfully with each other. Teachers and Educators support children to develop empathy, care and mutual respect, while promoting social justice. We uphold the United Nations Rights of the child and ensure children understand their rights and the responsibilities that come with these rights.

Educational learning experiences reflect the pre-school’s environmental sustainability practices and provide opportunities for children to learn about the interdependency of the living world, through the care of living creatures and the natural environment.

Our Educators are highly valued and we acknowledge that we all have a diverse range of skills, talents and interests. We respect and support each other’s ideas, views and opinions, engaging in reflective practice to ensure the best outcomes for children. We use the ECA code of ethics and the Early Years Learning Framework to guide our practice.

We work in partnership with families and acknowledge it is a shared responsibility and privilege work with the children in our care.
